Re: 2015 NFL Draft Thread
I was not a big Cooper fan but after reading a thread by Seaver, I would be happy if the Jets drafted him or a Offensive linemen. D'Brick and Mangold are getting up there in age. The OL needs rebuilding. Maybe, if we get a high enough pick, get a trade with a team willing to ante up draft picks for one of the QB's.

Re: 2015 NFL Draft Thread
Is it just a coincidence that we had our best OL play while Bill Callahan was our OL coach, and now he's turned around the Cowboys OL as well. I know they've drafted Smith LT, Zach Martin G & Fredricks C, but I still think Callahan is a better OL coach than Mike Devlin ?

So many things come into play, just look at NE's situation. Get rid of arguably their best OL Logan Mankins, and their longtime OL coach retires. Who's coaching them? Non other than Dave Guglielmo the supposedly clueless OL coach that was fired after one year with the Jets under OC Sparano. After a rocky start, NE's OL is as good as ever. Is that because of Gugs, or is it the HC/QB/OC? Devlin might be pretty good, or not. With what's surrounding him we'll never know, at least with the Jets.

Anyone familiar with him?

Sources told me earlier this week redshirt sophomore, Gerod Holliman/S/Louisville, (14 ints this season) is expected to enter the draft.

figures that in a year the jets are expected to have a top 5 pick, that the strength of the draft is probably in the position grouping we have the least need in (d-line)

Yup, although if he was there, I'd take Gregory in a heartbeat. Put him at olb, or if we switch to a 4-3, put him and Mo at DE with Snacks and Sheldon inside. We could then try to trade Coples.

Obviously depends on HC/OC, but I wouldn't mind drafting Cooper and trading our 2nd for Foles. Cooper is an easy kid to root for. However, Hobson references the strong DL in this draft, while I like Cooper, I would have loved wearing a Watkins or Evans Jets jersey from last years crops of WRs if I had to pick from these 3. I do think Cooper can be a Reggie Wayne type, I just don't think he'll be as fast as Watkins or a Marvin Harrison...just brilliantly polished.
51 $ Hobson - what do you guys think?
Ps - still think Idzik goes OL.

I'm hearing the Titans really like Mettenberger QB going forward and Amari Cooper is on their radar screen.

He has a rifle and can make every throw. He's a statue, think Drew Bledsoe, but like Bledsoe, if you build a wall in front of him, you're in trouble, cause he attacks defenses.
I watching watching him a couple weeks ago and he had 9 completions at half time...for 154 yards. He just pushes the ball downfield, so I am sure they are excited about that. Its one of the reasons the Jags are so excited about Bortles...he's got a live arm (but not as live as Mettenberger) and he's always going downfield. This week, I saw Bradley and Co. actually pushed him to work more on his short/intermediate throws (and they still pulled out a win).
If these two QBs learn when to and not to take their shots, something that is obvious when you watch them today, they're still figuring out when to settle for check downs and when to take risks, they will be big time QBs. Some learn and some never do. Both have big upsides.
No way I think Titans move on from Mettenberger. I would move a 2nd for him now. The kid makes big time plays. We'll see for ourselves in a couple week. I like a guy with more mobility, but I'd take him if he was available.

55 +1 agree. The Titans best WR was Wright and he sucks, so Cooper being an SEC product from their back yard Alabama, hooked up with Mettenberger would be sweet.
My sleeper pick is Justin Hardy WR / ECU. He broke all ECU receiving records, he's tall & fast and fights for the ball. I'd get your big OL with the 34-36th pick in the 2nd round, then bundle some picks and snag Hardy.

Re: 2015 NFL Draft Thread
When you think about LSU in 2013, Mettenberger was throwing to both ODB and Jarvis Landry. Why didn't he have 4000 passing yards??

They had Jeremy Hill at RB and Cam Cameron as offensive coordinator

Couple things:
He tore out his knee on his final college pass vs Arkansas; and if you remember, his final pass was a 32 yard strike for a TD to Landry while getting his legs taken out from under him. He missed his bowl game.
Also, he had 60 less pass attempts in 2013 compared to 2012, that 3 games worth of pass attempts down. Meanwhile, to Sarge's point, Hill's carries went up from 142 to 203...or about 3 games worth of carries. You can see the shift in offensive focus.

need to find a way to lose to the Titans...I'm worried about that game. Harvin finding his grove in the O could be trouble for our draft picks.

It's hard to imagine the Tennessee Tuxedos beating us next week after the way the two teams played today, but remember the Raiders lost 52-0 last week to the St Louis Rams and beat the 49ers today, so literally anything can happen.

Titans aren't taking a QB. They believe in Mettenberger...if they draft Winston, please lord trade for Mettenberger, way more upside than Winston.
