    I think football51 is right. The Jets have snubbed Manish Mehta in the past for his over the top nonsense reporting on this team. He's a small, bitter little man who's going to trash Idzik all he can under the guise of freedom of the press. Mehta is protected to write what he wants, regardless of how inaccurate it is.

    The DJax situation was different because we would've had to tie a big contract to him in the form of years and dollars. We would've been locked in with a guy who flashes gang signals after scoring. No thanks. With Harvin, you get nearly the same level of talent and can cut him after the year if he's either unproductive or acting like a fool. And only pay 7.1 million for THIS year.

    The comparison is apples and oranges.

    I agree, it's two devils in terms of talents and how you have to carefully create a contract good and safe for both sides.

    I think it was obvious we needed this kind of talent and now we have it.

    I think whether we had DJax or Harvin, we would be constantly holding our breath something crazy doesnt happen around them. Now we have that electric talent we were lacking, now it's time to start holding our breath.

    Percy1: Piggybacking on @MMehtaNYDN and @RapSheet: Seattle gets a 6 for Harvin if Jets cut him after year; a 4 if he's on team in 2015.

    Peter King @SI_PeterKing · 5m 5 minutes ago
    Percy2: Sea spoke to Cle, TB also. Jets made best offer. Sea was open w/Jet GM John Idzik about the whole book on Harvin.

    Peter King @SI_PeterKing · 4m 4 minutes ago
    Percy3: Yes, compensation stinks. But I think Sea would have cut him this week or next if no trade partner was found. As for Jets?

    Peter King @SI_PeterKing · 3m 3 minutes ago
    Percy4: Jets have a 10-game trial with immensely talented player. They have a good mentor type in Vick for Harvin. Good move by Idzik.

    It's actually nine games, but King is a Pats fan, so he might not be the brightest bulb.

    Really doing this? RT @WillBrinson David Nelson (noted for work with Haiti orphans) released for Harvin (reportedly punched teammates).

    But Idzik is a genius for making this move huh? The same guy that passed on DeSean Jackson is suddenly a genius that stole Harvin??? I think it's much more likely that Seattle HAD to get rid of Harvin and Schneider gave his buddy Idzik the inside track. I'll give Idzik credit for being in the right place at the right time but to think he maneuvered this trade in any way is folly IMO.

    You sound like me here. Smile. I thought about that too, and how no draft picks would have needed to be traded for DJax and DJax only counts $3.5 mill towards this year's cap compared to Harvin's $8-10; however, that ship has sailed, and this, at least, could be a lesson learned.  As Parcells used to say, you don't win with choir boys in this league.  Idzik may have learned his lesson from DJax or he prefers Harvin's problems over DJax's (with Marty in the locker room and plenty of friends in Seattle, I'm sure he has enough info on both players).

    I believe he's going into this eyes wide open and Harvin is definitely a Player we needed.  How we got here is a moot point for me, just glad to see Idzik pull the switch on something we need.  If he pulled the DJax move, we'd probably be 5-2 and talking play-off bye, at least now we have a reason for hope the rest of the season.  I don't know about you, but I wasn't looking forward to watching the last 2 games and we didn't even start the last game thread till less than 24 hours before the game started (which means none of us were excited to talk about the game).  This definitely infuses some life into the organization and hope for the future, IMO.

    DJax has $16 million guaranteed. so it's not just about 2014 cap hit. if he implodes, the redskins will take a hit of $11 million in dead money if they cut him next year. if harvin implodes, the jets will take no cap hit if they cut him next year.

    and i think it's a stretch to say djax is the difference between 1-6 and 5-2. washington is 1-5 last i checked

    Interesting theory. I guess it depends on what they see from Enunwa and the potential with Shaq Evans. Wouldn't get the pick until 2016 though, and that doesn't factor in any free agents that we might sign in 2015.

    Joe Caporoso @TurnOnTheJets · 4h 4 hours ago
    If Harvin pans out, #Jets likely let Kerley walk in FA and get back a 5th or 6th compensatory pick, covering them for the pick given up here

    Is it a desperation move? Maybe. Why shouldn't a 1-6 team be desperate? If 1-6 isn't the time to make a desperation move, when is? IMO, until we are eliminated from the playoffs, we and the organization should continue to go forward with the idea that making the playoffs is possible.

    Consider ourselves lucky if it's a 2nd rounder, because it's only a 2nd rounder if he achieves specific goals. In other words, stays healthy and very productive.

    The media won't give Idzik credit for this, but it's actually a great deal for the Jets. Low risk, high potential reward. But don't tell Cannizarro, Cimini, Mehta, or anyone else who enjoys bashing the team that. It disrupts the narrative.

    I agree, looks like a very good deal. Hope it pans out for us.

    You see whose lockers he is between?

    Breno Giacomini and DeMario Davis.

    His Super Bowl teammate and the team's emotional leader.

    Probably just a coincidence that that slot was empty, but still meaningful imo

    A couple of quick thoughts:

    I think that Idzik, through his contacts in SEA had a comfort level about Percy that he could not get with DJax;

    A 4th to a 6th is NOTHING compared to the potential of what we are getting;

    I do have a bit of a concern about Percy's attitude but I hope for the best;

    I wish this trade had happened a week earlier!!!!!!!

    Something to think about - who was his QB during his time at Minn? Just saying.
