Jets to be in on Suh?

    Post by Superman55 on Wed 7 Jan 2015 - 12:55

ESPN Insider article lists Jets as a team that may be after Suh. Again, dont shoot the messenger, how they could list us with our current dline, no GM, and no idea if we'll play 4-3 or 3-4 is beyond me, but here's the article:

Myriad suitors lining up to pay Suh?

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has one more year remaining on his contract with the Detroit Lions, but he is expected to invoke an option to get out of the deal and test the free-agent market during the offseason.

Predictably, he is expected to get plenty of interest from deep-pocketed suitors.

"The sources told Yahoo Sports there could be as many as 10 teams interested in making titanic pitches to Suh," wrote Charles Robinson.

"Among those in play, the sources said, if Suh hits the open market? The Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders – the three teams expected to have the most cash to spend in free agency.

"The New York Jets were also expected to show interest ... The Falcons were also named as a team that is expected to be interested ..."

Robinson cited other sources who said that the Lions are "keeping the [franchise tag] option on the table," despite a monster cost of $26.7 million for 2015.

Surely, this is the biggest offseason maneuver upon which the Lions will have to act during the offseason, but it's not the only defensive tackle contract they will have to address:

    Mike Sando
    Suh decision looms for Lions
"Reports before the season suggested the Lions and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh were preparing for a divorce following the season. Suh is signed through 2015, but he can void the final year of the deal. Using the franchise tag would cost the team roughly $27 million in cash and salary-cap space in 2015. Suh's contract would count $9.7 million against the cap in 2015 even if the team does not re-sign him, thanks to a pattern of renegotiation that has pushed cap damages into the future. Is there a realistic way to keep him? Defensive tackles Nick Fairley and C.J. Mosley can also become free agents. Bottom line: This position will be central to the Lions' offseason."

Makes little sense unless the Jets plan on running a 5-2 or 6-1 base.

Maybe because we will have to spend a bunch of cap money and he is a quality player. From that perspective makes sense, but we have plenty of quality DLmen so probably not.

Im sure the new GM will focus on resigning Wilkerson like our previous GM failed to do...not signing Suh. But I found the article, so I thought i'd share.

It all depends... The Giants have shown having a rotation on the line that can constantly get pressure is a pretty good formula... So our Rotation would be Wilk-Suh-Snacks-Richardon with Coples Possibly Ellis if resigned and Babin. With All of them with the exception of Babin being able to Move inside or out... That's a sick line... And Douzable to boot!! I'll sign up for that D-line any day of the week.. We have the cap space...

I think the Jets are in the conversation simply because of cap space. I don't see it as an option unless we move some of our DL depth for draft picks.

Im pretty sure Babin signed a 2 year deal with the second year being a team option. I dont think we have to resign him.

You are correct the resign comment was just meant for Ellis!! Have to check my grammar next time and put the comma in there. LOL!!

+1, Gil Brandt and Pat Kirwan have been saying that for weeks. He's be a Raider to likely go with Mack and another defensive target in this year's draft.

    Two words. Hell no.

Defensive line strongest unit on the team. And great depth with Douzable and Ellis.

Focus on areas of need. We don't need King Dirty here.

I'd keep an eye on the Raiders, with a good young nucleus of Carr & Mack, they could become a force again with a great HC. Future sleeper team instead of door mat.

It's a law of averages. You cannot possibly suck for that long.  lol!

I agree about Carr and Mack, though. Both were very good picks.

Remember they also took Gabe Jackson OG Miss St. He was a very good pick too. He's one of those 6'3 330lbs road grading OGs and started 12 or 13 games I think. After watching them week 1, I watched a couple of their games (their game vs the Bills was one I couldnt miss to see if the Bills were for real), and I will say Carr like any rookie was inconsistent, but I think with more coaching he can be very good. Im with you, if they pick the right coach, I think they landed 3 corner stones in the last draft.

The other guy they drafted, but he didnt play much, was the 6'3 CB from Utah everyone was ga-ga over last year and compared to Sherman just because of his size and speed (Keith mcGill). He didnt play much on a bad Raiders team, but as a rookie CB, not sure that means anything.

Not only do we not need to be spending big FA $$ on the position we are undoubtedly deepest at, I would really be bummed bringing in such a dirty player. This report just makes zero sense.
