Todd Bowles can't afford to botch offensive-coordinator decision
Cimini can't resist doing a little concern trolling in that piece, but he's got a point: Bowles wants to get his OC nailed down before all the good ones are taken, and since all the HC hires have been defensive guys, there's a lot of competition for OCs now.
He also suggests Trestman as a fallback, which could be a good idea--but could be a fiasco too, I suppose.

No to Lame Kiffin! If Bowles wants Chan, pay the man and lets go.

Kiffin is rumored to be on 49ers short list. Have not heard him mentioned anywhere else.

I think hiring Bowles was a GREAT choice, but we all knew from Day 1, if you hire a defensive guy, you are going to be sacrificing the chance to hire a top offensive guy and even if you DO hire a top offensive guy, you are likely to lose him in a year or two. So, we just have to hope that Bowles has a vision for the offensive side and is able to assemble a staff that carries out his vision - something Rex was never able to do

Okay, here is an update on offensive coordinator hires
Ravens - Lost Kubiak, hired Marc Trestman
Bills - New coaching staff, hired Greg Roman
Broncos - New coaching staff, hired Rick Dennison from Ravens
Jaguars - Fired old OC, hired Greg Olson
Buccaneers - Fired old OC, hired Dirk Koetter
Falcons - new coaching staff, hired Kyle Shanahan
I think that leaves
Jets
49ers
Bears
Browns
Adam Gase still on the table

Rob Chudzinski is an excellent O.C. who like many, got in over their heads as HC of the Browns. The Panthers & Chargers hated to lose this young genius.

If Chan Gailey falls through, I think Mike Sherman w/b interested in Jets' OC job. Not sure if it's mutual. Has HOU background w/ Maccagnan.

Mike Sherman would be "minimally acceptable" on my rating scale

Chan Gailey is the Jets' new offensive coordinator, the team announces. He'll be their fourth OC in the last 5 years. #nyj
Glad it is a done deal I think he will do a good job

Yes. I think this leads to us moving on from CJ2K, hope it means we grab Spiller, and I also think if anyone can maximize Harvin's talent, it's Gailey.
I think Harvin, Spiller, Decker, Amaro, and Ivory will be a good mix with Gailey. He builds his offense around the players and I think he is a perfect fit with what we may have.
I hope Gailey steals Spiller from the Bills and Rex...just having an aging Fred Jackson and young watkins with no first rd picks vs Bowles defense is okay with me.

Nick, what do you think of Tony Sparano as o-line coach? He has a history with Bowles(in Dallas & Miami) and is well repected.

Sparano is a good OL coach, you wonder if he wants to come back and deal with the chowder heads in the NY media again

I think he would do a good job and also be someone else Bowles can lean on who has HC experience

Now Macacgan has got to supply our OC with a true QB.

We all hope for an upgrade but at least Gailey has a history of doing OK with less talent at QB

QBs Chan Gailey has been an OC for ALL had best statistical years under him.
Everyone entitled to own opinion, but that is irrefutable.
