Jets officially name Brian Heimerdinger director of player personnel. At 28, one of the youngest evaluators ever in that kind of position.

If we hit on a winner we are set for a long time. I like the hire.

Nick, is the title of director of player personnel only behind the gm job?

What Exactly Does Each Member of an NFL Team's Front Office Do?

Thanks Nick. It appears as if Macc has combined pro/college personnel director into this new position for Heimerdinger. That's a powerful role for such a young man.

I think Rex Hogan (former Bears scout) was hired as director of college scouting

He was. I think player and pro are interchangeable worlds in that title So Heimerdinger is director of pro personnel.

Here's something on the Packers Eliot Wolf. He was previously their director of pro personnel, but got promoted to director of player personnel. That means that the director of college scouting reports to him, and he reports to Thompson. Similarly, I believe Heimerdinger(who has scouted pro/college) will oversee the entire personnel department with Hogan reporting to him, then Heimerdinger reporting to Macc. That's why Cimini said they created a new position for him.

Good info looks like it may run that way.

Just want to add it is not always about the title. Different teams have different reporting policies. Just look at how HC and GM situations are handled around the league.

Here's another one that I saw with the Texans promoting Brian Gaine from director of pro personnel to director of player personnel.

Just want to reiterate what an outstanding hire I believe Brian Heimerdinger is for the Jets. He has a keen eye for talent. Great upside

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/01/jets_hire_chicago_bears_rex_hogan_as_senior_direct.html

The Jets on Thursday named Rex Hogan their new senior director of college scouting.

He replaces Terry Bradway, who was fired by new general manager Mike Maccagnan, along with Jeff Bauer, the Jets' director of college scouting.

After those two firings, Hogan is the second front-office hire by Maccagnan, following Brian Heimerdinger, a Rams scout who was named director of player personnel. The Jets still have Brendan Prophett in place as director of pro personnel.

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/01/jets_todd_bowles_names_three_more_assistants_jimmi.html

The Jets on Thursday named three more assistants for new head coach Todd Bowles' staff.

Jimmie Johnson will coach tight ends, Daylon McCutcheon will assist with the defensive backs, and Ryan Slowik will assist with the defensive line and be a defensive quality control coach.

The Jets have not officially named a cornerbacks coach, but they now have two coaches working with defensive backs: McCutcheon, who is a former NFL cornerback, and Joe Danna, whose title is "defensive backs/safeties."

All of their other positions are now covered with assistant coaches. After the addition of three coaches Tuesday, the only positions left without coaches were tight ends and cornerbacks.

In the announcement about Johnson, McCutcheon and Slowik, the Jets did not specifically state whether Bowles is finished hiring assistants. But he could be.

Here is a rundown of the three latest hires:

    • Johnson was Minnesota's tight ends coach from 2006-13. He was out of coaching last season. Johnson was previously the offensive coordinator at Texas Southern and Division II Shaw University.

Johnson played 10 seasons in the NFL as a blocking tight end (1989-98). He began his career playing for Washington, from 1989-91, where he and Bowles overlapped as teammates for two seasons.

    • McCutcheon knows Bowles from a couple previous stops. McCutcheon was a training camp coaching intern in Arizona last year, when Bowles was the Cardinals' defensive coordinator. He was previously a high school defensive coordinator since 2007. In 2013, he was a training camp coaching intern with the Jets.

McCutcheon started at cornerback for the Browns from 1999-2005. Bowles was his position coach from 2001-04. So McCutcheon knows a thing or two about playing corner in the NFL. The Jets' cornerback position needs all the help it can get.

    • Slowik was the assistant defensive backs coach with the Cardinals for the past two seasons, under Bowles. He was previously their outside linebackers coach (2012) and defensive quality control assistant (2009-11). He was with the Broncos from 2005-08, as a defensive assistant, special teams assistant and defensive backs assistant.

Here's an updated look at the Jets' coaching staff:

    • Offensive coordinator: Chan Gailey
    • Defensive coordinator: Kacy Rodgers
    • Special teams coordinator: Bobby April
    • Wide receivers: Karl Dorrell
    • Quarterbacks: Kevin Patullo
    • Offensive line: Steve Marshall
    • Tight ends: Jimmie Johnson
    • Running backs: Marcel Shipp
    • Offensive quality control: Robby Brown
    • Inside linebackers: Mike Caldwell
    • Outside linebackers: Mark Collins
    • Defensive backs/safeties: Joe Danna
    • Defensive backs assistant: Daylon McCutcheon
    • Defensive line: Pepper Johnson
    • Defensive line assistant/defensive quality control: Ryan Slowik

Not saying the offensive side is bad, but the coaches on the defensive side are awesome.....sort of including Bowles in the equation

Rodgers, Caldwell, and Johnson is a darn good core group of experienced, respected guys on defense

On the offensive side, Gailey is of course the guiding vision, Dorrell has been a head coach, so he can help. After that, you have Patullo, Shipp, Johnson and Marshall, all good guys but not really considered strategic thinkers

I like Heller, he's tough and experienced and I think he's originally from Long Island or Connecticut
