A good hire by the Redskins, - too bad it's not the only help they need.

Multiple sources: After the Dec. 14 loss in Seattle, 49ers management told Jim Harbaugh he wouldn't be returning as coach in 2015.

    Tim Kawakami @timkawakami · 12m 12 minutes ago
From that point, Harbaugh had to decide quickly if he wanted to go to Michigan, stay in the NFL or just sit out. He choose Ann Arbor.

Why quickly? Because Michigan needed an answer.

Marshawn Lynch - RB - Seahawks
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks have offered Marshawn Lynch "a huge contract extension that would keep him in a Seahawks uniform for years to come."
It's believed the deal would make Lynch the highest-paid running back in terms of annual average not named Adrian Peterson. It's a big swing of events after it's been rumored for the better part of a calendar year now that 2014 could be Lynch's final season in Seattle due to age, inflated salary, and edginess. Per RapSheet, the new deal would pay Lynch around $10 million next season.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12267487/johnny-manziel-cleveland-browns-entering-rehab-improve-himself

CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel entered treatment on Wednesday, adviser Brad Beckworth told ESPN.com through a Manziel spokesman.

"Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step," Beckworth said.

"On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."

Browns general manager Ray Farmer said in a statement that they support Manziel's decision.

"We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns," Farmer said.

"We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player. Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same."

Interviews by ESPN.com with nearly 20 Browns sources, both on the record and on condition of anonymity, along with several NFL personnel sources reveal the Manziel-related problems run deep.

Those who spoke talked of a yearlong pattern that showed a lack of commitment and preparation, a failure to be ready when given a chance in his first start against Cincinnati and a continued commitment to nightlife, which affected his preparation and work while in the team facility.

On a Tuesday in the final week of the season, Manziel stood in front of about 20 media members and outlined his plan to become the Browns' answer at quarterback. He wanted to be "the guy" for Cleveland, he said, and would do so by taking his job more seriously. He was more animated than he'd been all year, eager to declare his intentions. Four days later, stories in the Browns' facility began to circulate. Manziel was not present the morning before the season finale. Team security drove to Manziel's downtown home to check on him. The Browns were packing up for the season finale at Baltimore on Dec. 28.

Two team sources said security found a player who they felt clearly had partied hard the night before. One source used the words "drunk off his a--."

The official word was that Manziel was "late," but players said they didn't see Manziel until the Browns' chartered airplane prepared to take off in the afternoon, that he was not present all morning. The team fined Manziel for missing treatment on his injured hamstring, then had him sit in the locker room during the season finale in Baltimore.

"Johnny's his own worst enemy," one source said.

The Monday after the season, Manziel had another news conference, saying many of the same things from six days earlier -- actions must support words. That night he was featured in Instagram photos on Miami Beach, a few days later at a club in Houston and a few days after that on a mountain in Aspen, Colorado.

"I brought this on myself," Manziel said the day after the Baltimore game. "I brought these cameras and all these people that are in this locker room right now and I don't think it's fair to myself, I don't think it's fair to anybody in this locker room the distractions I've brought at points in time."

Do you think Robert Kraft would have this type of response?

Blank has a lot to learn about being an elite NFL owner. You don't say you're embarrassed. You deny everything, and then scream about how the league is out to get you. Then demand an apology. That's how you get to be one of Goodell's Guys, and get him to come to your house and party with you the night before playoff games.

Robert Griffin III - QB - Redskins
A letter from the Redskins to their "premium fans" does not list Robert Griffin III as part of their nucleus.
The Washington Redskins thank you for your continued loyalty and support," read the letter. "Head Coach Jay Gruden, new General Manager Scot McCloughan, and Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry will lead a nucleus of Ryan Kerrigan, DeSean Jackson, plus Pro Bowlers Trent Williams and Alfred Morris. The Redskins are poised to rebound next season!" Just two years ago, RG3 was collecting his Rookie of the Year award and was named to the Pro Bowl as the face of the franchise. Now he heads into the offseason not even knowing if he'll be back in Washington.

Julio Jones - WR - Falcons
New coach Dan Quinn confirmed getting Julio Jones signed to a long-term contract is a priority.
Jones, who just turned 26 years old, is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. The Falcons should explore an extension this offseason if they want to avoid using the franchise tag on him a year from now. As an other-worldly talent set to play the Andre Johnson/Pierre Garcon "X" role for Kyle Shanahan, Julio is poised for an eruption as long as his health cooperates.

Shonn Greene - RB - Titans
Shonn Greene has pled guilty to "failure to exercise due care" and "parking in a handicap spot" in his October driving case.
Greene had originally also been charged with resisting arrest and driving on a suspended license after he attempted an ill-fated escape from his illegal park in a handicap spot. Going on 30, Greene is due $3.25 million for 2015 after a woefully ineffective 2014. He'll almost certainly be cut. This being the Titans, they're unlikely to put the savings to good use.

This doesnt exactly sound like Fitzpatrick is going to become available...

Bill O’Brien: We’ll probably have a quarterback competition

Posted by Josh Alper on February 6, 2015, 8:58 AM EST
    Jacksonville Jaguars v Houston Texans
    Getty Images
The Texans played four different quarterbacks last season, opening the year with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starter and closing it with Case Keenum playing in a Week 17 win.

That win left the Texans with a 9-7 record that had some wondering what Houston might have been able to do in the AFC South if their quarterback play had reached a higher level than Fitzpatrick, Keenum, Ryan Mallett and Tom Savage were able to achieve during their turns in the lineup. Head coach Bill O’Brien said this week that the team’s in the process of evaluating their options inside and outside the organization while planning for the offseason.

‘We’ll make the right decision and it will probably be a competition,” O’Brien said, via the team’s website. “It will be something where guys come in and compete and have to win the job and that’s the way it should be and that’s what we’re looking to do.”

Savage was a fourth-round pick last year, which probably nets him a spot on the roster for at least one more year. Mallett is set to become a free agent while Fitzpatrick is coming back from a broken leg and there won’t be room for both of them and Keenum if the team is going to bring in anyone to join the fray at quarterback.

    Titans waive Michael Oher

Posted by Mike Wilkening on February 5, 2015, 5:14 PM EST

The Titans are parting ways with their starting right tackle.

Tennessee has waived/injured Michael Oher, the club said Thursday.

The 28-year-old Oher started all 11 games in which he played for Tennessee in 2014 before landing on injured reserve with a toe injury. He reportedly signed a four-year, $20 million contract in March.

Oher graded out 75th of 84 qualifying tackles in 2014, per Pro Football Focus, which rates player performance.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, nearly 85 percent of Oher’s $4 million salary would have been guaranteed for 2015 if he were to have remained on the Titans’ roster by Friday.

A first-round pick in 2009, Oher played his first five NFL seasons with Baltimore, starting and playing every game for the club in that span. His upbringing was depicted in a book (“The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game”) and a movie (“The Blind Side”).

Right tackle looks to be one of the Titans’ needs entering the offseason. Byron Stingily, who filled in for Oher at season’s end, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent.

    This should help:

    Mike Pettine - C - Browns
Coach Mike Pettine is expected to "immerse" himself in the Browns offense in 2015.
As a first-time coach with a defensive background, Pettine let then-OC Kyle Shanahan run the show on offense. Rightfully so. Shanahan is one of the brighter offensive minds in the game, but he's now gone after begging for his release. It also didn't help that GM Ray Farmer, owner Jimmy Haslam, and other front-office types tried calling the plays from their suite. John DeFilippo is the new OC, and it's his first time as an NFL play caller. Expect Pettine to feature a run-heavy, power offense. It could benefit second-year RB Isaiah Crowell.
