Sammy Watkins - WR - Bills
New coach Rex Ryan showered Sammy Watkins with praise Sunday.
When Rex's Jets faced the Bills in Week 8, Watkins went for 157 yards and a touchdown. The next time they played, Ryan doubled the rookie wideout on every play. "Sammy is a one in every 10-year player that comes down the road," he said. It's clear that Watkins will be a featured player in for Rex and new OC Greg Roman, but there's plenty of reason for box-score concern. E.J. Manuel and Jeff Tuel are the only quarterbacks on the roster, Roman's track record isn't great with passing games and we know Ryan teams want to ground-n-pound.

Dion Jordan - DL - Dolphins
Dolphins DE Dion Jordan made his first career start in Week 17.
Ex-Fins GM Jeff Ireland traded up to select Jordan with the third pick in the 2013 draft. He went 25 games without getting his first "start." Although DC Kevin Coyle has been ripped for failing to utilize Jordan correctly, it's fair to wonder just how good Jordan really is. He's drawn below-average marks across the board from PFF and failed to earn significant snaps.

Vic Fangio - DL - Bears
Bears hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator.
Both new Bears coach John Fox and Redskins coach Jay Gruden wanted Fangio to head up their defense. The consistently excellent Fangio, who fled from San Francisco after getting passed over for the head-coaching job, chooses to go for the unit with a little more talent. That's not to say he doesn't have his hands full however, as Mel Tucker's Bears fielded the league's No. 30 defense in both 2014 and 2013. But note that in four seasons with Fangio as the 49ers' defensive coordinator, they annually ranked in the top five -- including this year even though they played without Patrick Willis, Navarro Bowman, Aldon Smith and Tramaine Brock for extended periods. Expect the Bears to make a leap defensively next season. The Redskins may now have to settle for Chargers LBs coach Joe Barry.

Former Jets and Browns HC Eric Mangini, who spent last season as SF’s TE coach, expected to be hired as 49ers' DC, per sources.

That's a nice little move for Mangenius. Sets him up to be a HC candidate in a year or two.

Sounds like Pettine is going to be under the gun in a screwed up mess--suppose they take Bryce Petty in the 1st round. You'll be rushing him if you play him, but Manziel is a drama queen and Hoyer is a low-ceiling game manager--a poor man's Kyle Orton, if you will--who will have the half the fans yelling for Johnny Football and the other half yelling for Petty. No good options in 2015.

Did anyone see the interview with the punk who caught Jerome Kearse winning TD ball after Kearse threw it in the stands ? He's already been offered 20K for the ball from a sports marketing company. He said he might need the money for Attorney fees before he heads off to prison !

The Colts suspended tailback Trent Richardson for two games, General Manager Ryan Grigson confirmed on Friday.

Grigson did not elaborate on the reason for the ban. It wasn’t immediately known whether the suspension would continue on for the 2015 season or whether it would have just encompassed the AFC title game at New England and if the Colts played in Super Bowl XLIX.

Richardson was deactivated for Sunday’s loss to the Patriots after not traveling with the club. He missed the club’s Saturday walk-through, though Richardson indicated it was for a “serious family emergency,” per ESPN.com.

Howard Balzer of The Sports Xchange reported earlier this week that Richardson had been suspended.

Grigson also did not shed much light on whether Richardson would return for the final year of his contract with Indianapolis, saying he would be evaluated just like other players. Richardson is guaranteed $3.18 million in salary in 2015.

The Colts traded a No. 1 pick for the 24-year-old Richardson in 2013, but he has not produced as hoped. He was first a healthy scratch for the Colts’ divisional-round win at Denver.
