Idzik wouldn't touch this situation with a 10-foot pole...but it is an interesting thought...

    Claiborne Demoted, Skips Walk-Through
ESPNDallas.com columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor breaks down the latest on Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne, who stormed out of the team's facility after finding out he had been replaced in the starting lineup by Orlando Scandrick.

IRVING, Texas -- Cornerback Morris Claiborne skipped the Dallas Cowboys' walk-through practice and angrily left the club's Valley Ranch training facility Tuesday after being informed that Orlando Scandrick was replacing him in the starting lineup, multiple sources said.
The Cowboys could fine Claiborne for missing the practice or conduct detrimental to the team. Claiborne has started two of the Cowboys' three games amid Scandrick's 2-game suspension to start the season.

[+] EnlargeOT: Mo Claiborne CB Dallas - leaves team Dal_g_mclts_200x300
Frederick Breedon/Getty ImagesMorris Claiborne's demotion came hours after Jerry Jones said on a radio show Tuesday that the Cowboys' third-year cornerback had not been worth the sixth pick of the 2012 draft.

Claiborne's demotion came a few hours after Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show that the third-year cornerback had not been worth the sixth pick of the 2012 draft, which Dallas moved up to acquire.
"Is he what we had hoped for at this point when we drafted him with the sixth overall pick, giving up the [second-round] pick to go up to the sixth pick to get him? No," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "But he's going to be a good player."
On Sunday, Claiborne allowed five receptions for 108 yards and a 51-yard touchdown pass as the St. Louis Rams took a 21-0 second-quarter lead before theCowboys rallied to win 34-31. He also gave up a 38-yard catch and was penalized once for defensive holding.
Still, he made two of the game's biggest plays on St. Louis' final possession.
He pressured St. Louis quarterback Austin Davis into an incompletion, when he perfectly executed a corner blitz. And two plays later, he made a leaping interception to clinch the victory.
It was the third interception of his career.
But coach Jason Garrett refused to endorse Claiborne as the starter Monday.
"We'll evaluate them and see who can play best," Garrett said. "We'll do that again this week and determine how we play guys all throughout our roster."
After the game, Claiborne said he "stunk it up."
"Not in my eyes," Claiborne said, when asked if the interception erased his struggles. "It seemed to do that with everybody else. Not in my eyes.
"I'm ready to go learn from this tape and get better from it. Like I told the DBs, no matter what the outcome is I can't go out and play like that. If we want to be the No. 1 defense in the league, on my end, I can't go out like that."
Scandrick, who took Claiborne's job last season, likely would've been the starter when the season began if he hadn't been suspended for two games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
The suspension was later reduced to two games after the league and the NFLPA agreed to a new policy.
Scandrick played well against the Rams, yielding just two catches for 25 yards. Scandrick started the game instead of Claiborne because of the formation St. Louis used.
Claiborne missed the entire preseason with knee and shoulder injuries.
Garrett has said he thinks Claiborne can be a good player.
"Mo was just in situations in (Sunday's) game where he was isolated by himself and they made good throws and catches against him," Garrett said. "His technique on each of those plays wasn't perfect and they had success for different reasons on each of those plays where he got beat, and he just needs to continue to learn and grow and develop as a player. "
Information from ESPN.com's Todd Archer and ESPNDallas.com's Calvin Watkins was used in this report.

I went to the old board assuming I'd see a thread on this. Nope but here is the staple of the old scout board.... We always think one teams bust is gonna be our boon!!!! Laughing

I have watched every game Claiborne has played, my wife's a Cowboys fan, and he is not better than Walls. Not even close.  Heck I think AA looks like by seasons end he'll be better than MO.... With that said Rex loved this kid coming out of college and a change of scenery could help. As well as better coaching. So I'd kick the tires.

he should look lost, Dallas plays Tampa 2 and he's a press man cover corner with long arms and range...like Cro after his year where he had 10 INTs struggled to look good when they switched to zone coverage, then he resurrected his career here when he moved back to man-to-man.

Claiborne is an in your face, hands-on CB...playing off and standing in a zone is not what he was good at in college.  Revis didn't look great in this scheme last year for Tampa either and everyone knew he couldnt get out of there fast enough.

I'm not saying he's revis, I am saying he isn't Ronde Barber though...

He has the speed, but does Claiborne have the physicality to play on the outside in Rex's system? Can he press at the line?

Not for me to determine, but that's what his scouting report says...

    STRENGTHS

Claiborne is an aggressive cover man who likes to use his tall frame and long arms to get in receivers' faces, shock them at the line of scrimmage and disrupt their timing. When he punches, he makes his presence felt. He can run with his back to the ball at the receiver's hip using a press/bail technique and looks natural running with his man in-phase while still keeping an eye on the ball. Claiborne is such a gifted athlete with uncommon body control that he runs with his man fluidly up and down the field and still be able to break off at any time and get involved in plays coming across him. As a zone defender, he is simply an explosive athlete with length and can keep plays in front of him and react quick enough to meet the man at the ball. He is physical in run support and will have no problem coming up to tackle from the edge.

Dallas no longer plays the cover 2.... That was his first 2 years under Lane Kiffins Tampa 2 D... Rod Marenelli is the DC now.

Oh my lord...you know Marenelli came up under Kiffin in Tampa, right? SMH

"Kiffin has been demoted in favor of Rod Marinelli, who is a former disciple of Kiffin's from their time together in Tampa."

"Still, don't expect Marinelli to ditch the zone or Cover 2 very often."

from one of my FF sites...he's returned

Morris Claiborne - DB - Cowboys
Disgruntled CB Morris Claiborne returned to the Cowboys on Wednesday.
Coach Jason Garrett informed Claiborne that he was being benched on Tuesday, and the former No. 6 overall pick packed up his things and stormed out of the facility. He's cooled down. Claiborne is being replaced in the starting lineup by Orlando Scandrick, and may even be passed by Sterling Moore on the depth chart. It's uncertain whether he'll even be active for Week 4.

If he can get Claiborne for a 5th ot 6th, it's a no brainer.  Claiborne has the talent to be an NFL starting CB...you dont find many of those rd 5 or 6.

But again, I think Idzik is too conservative and doesn't take a flyer.  Would be interesting if our special teams coach from LSU could give Idzik 2 cents on the kid's character, one way or the other.

    Morris Claiborne returns to work

On Tuesday, Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne hightailed it from the team’s facility after being told that he was being removed from the starting lineup in favor of Orlando Scandrick.
A cooler head appears to have prevailed on Wednesday morning. According to multiple reports out of Dallas, Claiborne is back at the team’s headquarters.
Coach Jason Garrett will meet the media later in the day and will surely be asked about any discipline the team plans to take against Claiborne, which could start with a fine for conduct detrimental to the team and then escalate from there. A deactivation for Sunday’s game would be a possibility as well, although this might be a rough week to go that route.
As a practical matter, the Cowboys need cornerbacks to deploy against the Saints. Even though there’s no one in Dallas pretending that Claiborne’s been the player they thought he’d be when they traded up to take him in the 2012 draft, they only have so many cornerbacks on the roster and that leaves Claiborne in line to still play a good amount in sub packages.[/size]

If he's getting passed on the depth chart by possibly 2 guys I doubt they hold out for a 2. While there is no excuse for walking out on your team I think Idzik has to at least entertain the thought. He was highly touted coming out of college. He plays on one of the worst D's ever so you have to wonder what he can do with a better D before writing him off completely. Quite frankly outside of the stupid circus remarks Cimini will throw out can he really hurt????
