Re: Reason to hope...
My honest reason for hope is that our Schedule can be had for a memorable season. The rest of our opponents are beatable and don't come any where close to the teams we faced on our 6 game skid.
Now with the acquisition of Percy, it will alow the offense to be utilized in a much different way. Our already potent run game will have less personel in the box. If they load up, our receivers can handle one on one and Percy can torch him.
Our defense has been stout and i know many place alot of the blame on our CB's. Yes, and rightfully so, but they havent been horrid. We've been in games except for one. Our defense can handle any team.
This all depends on our QB, in which i feel will make us all believers or will be looking in a different directions in these next up coming 9 weeks.
I feel very optimistic about whats ahead fellas.

Re: Reason to hope...
In a pass happy league, I think we need to switch our D to a 4-2-5 instead of a 3-4 and heres why:
1) Our LB's are too slow to cover anyone.
2) Move Coples back to DT in a 4 man front with Richardson & Big Mo @ DE's and Snacks @ the other DT. Coples is not a LB. Coples best year was @ UNC as a DT.
3) Switch Antonio Allen back to SS instead of CB. For the 50th time, he is too slow to play CB.
4) Demario Davis is fast enough to be one of the 2 LB's, not sure about Harris as the other ?
5) Next season we need to find a FS and switch Pryor back SS as well, a fast LB and a # 2 CB.
Go Jets...Cyborg

A base nickel? I might be persuaded into a 4-3. But when you have the best front seven in the league, why make it a front six?cysporsche wrote:In a pass happy league, I think we need to switch our D to a 4-2-5 instead of a 3-4 and heres why:

Re: Reason to hope...
Our punt coverage had been horrible the past few seasons. Here's a big reason for the improvement this year. From espnnewyork.com
7. Double guns: The Jets are very happy with their gunners on the punt-coverage team, Saalim Hakim and T.J. Graham. Even though he has played in only six games, Graham is tied for the team lead with six tackles on special teams. Hakim has five. They might be the two fastest players on the team, and their work as gunners has helped the entire unit. The Jets are fourth in the league with a 42.7 net punting average.

TJ Graham has earned a spot on this team. ST's proven, and had a nice TD catch against Pitt. Marty needs to find a way to take a few shots down field to this kid. He's FAST.
The Jets are too conservative in their game plan. Gotta look for the bomb sometimes.

Re: Reason to hope...
Why did Woody say that we maybe need a strong safety in todays NY Post? Was that just a mix up with him meaning Free Safety? We're set at SS...
“My approach has always been the same: You want to get good value for the player and the position you’re looking for,” Johnson said before receiving the Steinberg DeNicola Humanitarian Award. “You don’t want to waste money in free agency. We don’t want to just spend it needlessly, spend it carelessly. But we also have team needs and we need to fill those needs. We need corners. We need maybe a strong safety. We need to look at our various elements of our team and build that up. There are really only two ways to do it, through free agency and the draft.

Well, Rex played Pryor at FS this year because of his unwillingness to bench SS Dwan Landry. Woody was just saying they need to replace Landry. I'm sure Bowles will put Pryor at SS.

Maybe Woody doesn't want another tampering charge by Patriots because if he said free safety, Kraft would have said we were tampering with McCourty.
