Charley Casserly was on Tampa radio (620AM) today. Said "in a perfect world," teams would hire GM, then HC. But it can work the other way

Casserly also said he + Ron Wolf ignore the media. "You are going to have ppl that have agendas. Most journalists are open-minded..." #jets

Jets consultant Charley Casserly, in interview w/ Tampa radio station, says "perfect world" w/b to hire GM first. But not married to that.

Re: Charlie Casserly coming in?
nah.....name surfaced and station reached out trying to gauge the Jets interest. That's a good program director.

Re: Charlie Casserly coming in?
Lol at Manish and his "sources". He wants to question Mac's track record of drafting? What track record? Rick Smith is the Texans gm. He has final say(until 2014 anyway.... Obrien may have some control too).

Looks like Woody took the least notes, hopefully he'll crib off of Wolf on the exam

Re: Charlie Casserly coming in?
Casserly and Wolf both did a great job. Glad Woody hired and followed their lead.
I would just like to see Woody do one more thing. Hire either one of them permanently. Give them a president of something or other title and then step away from any football decisions and defer to the new president. With the new structure of Bowles not reporting to Maccagnan but to Woody I would rather have a Casserly or a Wolf there settling disputes not Woody

Also curious who is going to be handling the contract negotiations/cap management/financial side of things. I presume Casserly/Wolf are more oriented around scouting and player development, and that Neil Glat is not that savvy with respect to those kinds of matters. We already know Maccagnan is not a finance/legal type.

I have heard Mark Dominik's name mentioned as the cap/negotiations guy. Not sure if that has changed.

Yes, right. I'd heard that too, but forgot. So many rumors, so little brain cells left...

Re: Charlie Casserly coming in?
I can honestly say, I am very happy with how the process went. It seemed thorough, professional, and exhaustive.
The only two concerns I might have are:
1. Was Marrone disqualified because of Mehta? If so, that cannot be. Neither the NYDN nor any other tabloid should have the power to make the Jets do ANYTHING, much less hire or not hire a coach, and
2. Was Bowles as high as Quinn? I am thinking they were both right there. If Quinn was clearly the top choice, they should have waited. If it was basically a tie, or Bowles was ahead, they made the right move.

At first, I was worried about your first point. However, Mehta/Lupica were the only media members to go after Marrone. Even Gary Meyers of the Daily News wrote a positive piece on him. Every other outlet was pro Marrone. Concerning Bowles/Quinn, I think Bowles was the guy. Mehta was the one pushing the whole "Quinn wants the Jets" mantra(maybe Tannenbaum influence?) and now, the Daily News reported yesterday that while Woody was ready to fly out to Seattle last weekend to meet Quinn for a second interview, he was going to also stop in Arizona for a second Bowles interview. i think if Quinn was the guy, the Jets would've waited. I'm also starting to think that Quinn wasn't at the top of anyone's list. The Falcons(with Pioli pushing hard) were poised to hire Bowles which is why the Jets pushed to get him here for a second interview ahead of them. The 49er's( rumored to love Quinn and Gase) chose neither. It seems as if Quinn's market(still may get the Falcons job by default) was inflated like Rex's( instead of taking shots at Marrone at his presser, he should've thanked him. Marrone opting out in Buffalo is the only reason why Rex isn't working for ESPN right now.).

Casserley said the decisions were totally Woodys'
As for #1 I don't think the media effected how Wolf or Casserely felt about Marrone but I do think it put a bad taste in Woodys mouth. I think the consultants had Marrone rated right up there with Bowles and Quinn
As for #2 I think they were neck and neck. So either choice was fine. If Quinn was free to sign things might or might not have changed

+1 Agree. Owners need to be just owners. Hire a Director of Football over GM & scouting department.
