    Post by Superman55 on Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 10:34

Well, Patriots get 3 bye weeks this year, 1 scheduled and 2 games against the Jets.

I actually expect this to look like yesterday's Rams vs 9ers game where there are moments we look like we belong with the Pats, but we likely have a similar defeat as last week where we lose handedly 34-17 (this will be a theme of the season as we go 3-13 or 2-14).

Opening line - Patriots by 10 with a O/U of 46 (I'd take the over and New England to cover).

We need to create turnovers, if we can do this and shorten the field for our pathetic O, then we have a chance.
As we all know, we don't create turnovers so......

thursday night games have been blowouts this year. i fear the same this week. pats did lose ridley and mayo for the year, but i don't think that will make a difference.

not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but this will be the last jets game i will watch in a month. and (fortunately) i missed the broncos game.

i picked a good year to miss a lot of jets games i guess

Yes. It is a good year to skip pro football all together...when was the last time you could say that?

Two things worth doing when jets football is on now:

    Sleep

    Drunk

    But do not: Shocked watch!

There's always next year....when we'll try to stick some make-up on this pig...

its over folks... the only answers this coaching staff has are platitudes like, "we are not dead." As long as we do not take shots down field every team will load the box and we will not be able to run, period, and I do not see that changing.

BB and Tommy will look to bury us this week....

It's a no-lose. The Jets aren't supposed to beat the Pats.

If they win, it's a shocker against a bitter rival. If they lose, it's a better draft pick.

It's tough, especially in mid-October, to be rooting for the draft pick. Even in some of the bad seasons the Jets have had lately, it hasn't been nearly this bad. And with the Pats not exactly elite, it's even more frustrating.

That said, you do need to bottom out to rebuild. Remaining a marginal team never gets you the picks to reconstruct the foundation. Look at the Colts. At the top, then one awful season and they're right back. Or the 49ers, who used to do this, as well. When you start to slip, bottom out, and then return to the top.

Shocker - Tom looks forward to facing the Jets! (so does everyone else, the Raiders wish they got a rematch).

Rex says, "We're just going to show up.."  No kidding, it may be the only thing you guys do right...

FOXBORO — It’s a short week but a familiar foe.
The Patriots have just three days to prepare for old friend Rex Ryan and the New York Jets this week. It’s a challenge that quarterback Tom Brady is happy to embrace.
“He tests every part of your game,” Brady said of Ryan. “I have a lot of respect for that from a coaching standpoint. He challenges you. When he feels like he’s got you on something, he sticks with it.”
“They do what they do. It’s not a machine, but it’s pretty much,” Ryan said. “They know what they want to get done, and they’ve done it for so many years, it’s just like clockwork.”
Ryan added that the early-season criticism of Brady was “hysterical.”
“You know what I mean? It’s like, ‘Really?’” he said. “I mean, come on.”
Since Ryan took over in New York in 2009, Brady and the Pats are 7-4 against the Jets, including a playoff loss in Foxboro in January 2011. The Pats have won five of the last six meetings, the lone exception an overtime loss last October at the Meadowlands.
“We’ve had our fair share of good games. That’s what makes for a great matchup,” said Brady. “They’re a great rival. We’ve had a lot of meaningful games with them. Ever since I got here, it’s always been fun playing the Jets. This week will be no different.”
In those 11 career games against Ryan’s Jets, Brady has completed 60.4 percent of his passes (down from 64.6 against everyone else) for an average of 277 yards per game. He’s thrown 19 touchdowns and six interceptions -- about the same rate as he’s shown against other opponents in the same time period.
New England has averaged better than 27 points per game against Ryan’s defenses, compared to 31 against other opponents.
This week is a little different with the accelerated preparation. New England has won its last three Thursday night games, including a pair with the Jets. The Pats beat New York at Gillette in a Week Two Thursday night affair last season, and they of course rampaged the Jets on Thanksgiving night on the road in 2012, 49-19.
New York did beat Matt Cassel and the Pats in an overtime thriller, 34-31, on a Thursday night in 2008.
Brady has never lost on a Thursday, going 6-0. Two of those wins, though, were season-opening games, so the preparation time wasn’t as compact.
“It always comes down to how well you play,” Brady said. “I don’t think there’s any real magic plays that we hold for Thursday night games, or anything like that. It’s a short week. You have to max out on football, put everything else to bed and try to put everything you can into these three days.”
“We’re just going to show up, and the best team will win,” said Ryan.

On the road, Brady and the Pats heating up, and the Jets look like a 3-13 team.

I actually had a brief moment this morning where I actually asked myself "do I really need to watch this game?" I haven't had one of those moments since the 1996 season.

Unless the Jets pull one out here, and start some kind of roll, this game would be the final nail in the coffin. And don't think Brady and Belichick wouldn't enjoy every second of it.

I honestly think we are going to win this game and that it will be the start of a slide for the Pats. They get to face what we have already faced and I don't think that they are going to fare much better than we did. Of course, if that happens, the media will have the injuries excuse already teed up for them.

At this point, The happiest that I'd be is if we go 3-13 with our 2 remaining wins coming against the Pats.

EDIT: Barring any unforeseen super bowl runs, of course

Expect "monsoon like" conditions,- warm, heavy rain & windy. - Probably puts the passing game in limbo - for either team. - Looks like a "line battle" with the runners carrying the load.

The things that drives me nuts about Rex is that he blue-printed the way to beat the Pats in 2010 by frustrating Brady with his use of 6 DBs in that divisional playoff game.

He clogged lanes & took the ability to run after the catch away from them...even got the pick from Harris.

I think he has a mind set of getting to the QB at all costs, and as seen by Rivers routinely picking up 3rd & longs, seasoned vets with a sack to stand in the face of an onslaught, seem to welcome the all out blitz packages as there is nobody left in coverage.

I just wish he would start playing more schemes to down & distance. Why in the world would he blitz 8 on a 3rd & 17? If he opts for that methodology, good night. Brady will eat us alive with a bunch of receivers you can't name.

.@1staz8 I think Belichick has too much respect for Rex to pull a stunt like this but we'll see

This way for years RT @CoreyGriffinNBC: Almost all pro-Revis, anti-Jets stories come through two reporters: Cole & Manish

Even if Revis doesn't end up playing WR, happy his camp leaked the story today. Rex will have the team up to play for tomorrow #Jets

And to be clear - Using Revis as a gadget WR is a clear smack in the face to Rex and the #Jets...and also stupid, so I doubt BB does it.

Nothing would please me more than Revis pulling a hamstring then fumbling while catching a short pass from Brady. Of course the Jets will have 5 players in the area but NE will recover the fumble.

Since the season is over and Rex is probably out I'd prefer them coming out on the short end for the draft pick but once the game starts I know that will change. Still NE13 - NY10.
