Once again there will be major talent to be had at the top of round 2 in this year's draft. With all the talk about our 1st rounder, this one might be just as important. Here are some of my early favorites:
WR:
1) DGB (OU)- character concerns could have him dropping. Merry Xmas to us if he does.
2) Rashad Greene (FSU)- FSU all-time leader. Elite hands, route running, short area explosiveness, work ethic. Knock is going to be his size and lack of sprinter's speed.
3) Sammy Coates (AU)- Great size and speed but route running and feel for the game is just OK.
4) Nelson Agholar (USC)- I think this guy is exciting. Just starting to realize potential w/elite athleticism. A little slight in size but extremely fast and explosive.
5) Stefon Diggs (U. Mary)- A real sleeper. This guy hasn't always been 100% healthy but is usually the best player on the field when he is. Keep an eye on this guy because he is very talented with decent size.
RB:
1) Todd Gurley (UGA)- The best player in college football (hands down) until he got hurt. He is much like DGB in that he's a specimen (6'1, 226 with legit sprinter speed). Best physical specimen at RB since AP. Like AP though, he has to come back from an ACL. Without that injury he would be slotted in top 10 of draft. If he drops to our pick, Merry Xmas again to us.
2) Duke Johnson (Miami)- Best player on the field when healthy. His feel for the game is uncanny. Not just a great athlete but has hands, vision, knows angles, etc. I LOVE this kid. If we take Spiller in FA though, that means we won't draft Duke.
3) Ameer Abdullah- A lot to like and similar to Duke, but I like Duke and Spiller more (probably in that order.
QB:
*Right now I don't think a QB is deserving of this slot after Winston and Mariota.
OL:
1) Cam Erving (FSU)- Love this kid. He can play all 5 positions on the line well. He won ACC's top lineman award two years in a row. This last year he was 1st team at LT and 3rd team all league at center. Yes, he occupied all-league at 2 positions in the same year. Truth be told he was the best center in the league when FSU needed him to make the move. Basically he can dominate any position he wants. Great feet for LT but is also a mauler. I think he's a late climber in this process but right now he's slotted somewhere at the top of round 2 and would be a STEAL.
2) Ereck Flowers (Miami)- Another late riser but he could be a future LT or RT if he drops. Classic size and good strength, although may be better suited on the right side.
Overall top 3 I would want to see in round 2 (not counting defense):
1) DGB
2) Gurley/Duke Johnson **Unless we grab Spiller in FA
3) Cam Erving
*I will do defense later
