Reading the tea leaves I think Quinn was on the short list, and he blew them away in his interview. And they knew they wanted him. Plus he has the best pedigree of the candidates.

I hope Maccagnan has some influence on how the Jets proceed now that he is in the fold official or not.

Todd Bowles - DT - Cardinals
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution sees Cardinals DC Todd Bowles as the "leading candidate" to replace Mike Smith as Falcons head coach.
The Falcons were in the Rex Ryan hunt, but lost out to the Bills. Bowles will interview for a second time with Atlanta on Wednesday. Per the Journal-Constitution, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is expected to stay with New England after his team advanced to the AFC Championship Game, nixing any opportunities for McDaniels to interview this week. Seahawks DC Dan Quinn is expected to go to the Jets. Bowles is said to be tight with new Falcons lead personnel man Scott Pioli, who is Bill Parcells' son in law. Bowles worked for Parcells in Dallas and Miami.

it definitely smells like Quinn to the Jets.......and I don't believe the whole no contact thing......agents can do the talking or at the very least wink once for yes and twice for no. I would imagine dialogue is advanced and he is the guy, but the Jets are doing the right thing and making sure there is a plan B, C, etc because you never know until a deal is actually done. It's entirely possible Quinn may not like seeing Rex Ryan now in the AFC East. Maybe ATL is a more appealing spot he didn't think was open until Rex signed in BUF. Bottom line is I like their approach.

Quinn to the Jets makes a lot of sense. But it is a risk, especially if Seattle beats GB. That's almost 3 more weeks of waiting.

Me too. They're the only other team I've heard might be serious about him. Especially if Bowles goes to ATL, and the Raiders pick Del Rio or Sparano. I haven't heard anything regarding the Bears and Quinn.

We are going to get thrashed in the media if we hold out for Quinn and he doesn't come here. I can already hear it.

I wonder if Quinn really wants to go to the Seahawks' prime rival. It's the kind of thing you do when you part ways on less than good terms, which I don't perceive to be the case here. My instinct is that he'd prefer to go anywhere but SF.

Gase is on his way there for a second interview. They seem to be hot after him. Hoping he fills the spot by the end of the week and the point is moot.

Here's the team we may have to worry about:

    Dan Quinn - C - Seahawks
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Broncos want to interview Seahawks DC Dan Quinn for their head-coaching vacancy.
The Broncos might be a little late to the party, but Quinn's team is still alive in the playoffs and remains free game for all the clubs looking for a new head coach. All Quinn would have to do in his Denver interview is pop in the game tape from last year's Super Bowl when his Seahawks defense dominated the Peyton Manning-led Broncos from start to finish. Quinn will get any job he wants.

    So now it looks like

    Bills - Rex
    Raiders - Del Rio
    49ers - Gase
Atlanta - Bowles (Teryl Austin? Josh McDaniels?)
    Bears - Fox
    Jets - Quinn (Bowles? Marrone?)
    Broncos - Kubiak (Quinn?)

I am a little nervous about Denver and Quinn. The Jets are going to need to make an aggressive push for Quinn when he becomes available. I think the 49ers will try to hire Gase. I think Atlanta will hire Bowles. I am not sure who the Broncos would hire honestly. The Broncos may try to hire Gase immediately and keep him in house. Having to wait for Quinn is troublesome because I think the Jets would have signed him by now if the rules allowed them to do so. We can only hope that through back channels they have a hand-shake agreement to move forward once the season is over in Seattle.

Worst case scenario is we wait around for Quinn, Seattle goes to the Super Bowl, and then Quinn bolts for Denver after all the primo assistant coaches have been snapped up. That would suck. But I doubt they wait for Quinn that long without some sort of commitment. I guess they can also interview people during the Super Bowl bye week, so that would tell us something

I still think Reich is the back up plan, maybe McDermott or Marrone

I think we are hoping for the Broncos to promote Gase to HC. Quinn might find the situation in Denver more amenable than SF because he may not want to face his former team 2x a year and compete with them for a playoff spot.  Let SF fight it out with ATL for Bowles, with the loser settling for Reich or Marrone.

Interesting note from Mehta of all people on Twitter, Denver can not interview Quinn during Super Bowl bye week, only 2nd interviews are permitted..........cool!
