The Annual "Black Monday" Thread (Non-Jets version)

    Post by hobson54 on Mon 29 Dec 2014 - 9:40

figured I'd start a thread to discuss the other firings across the league.  obviously this year is more relevant since it will be competition for the Jets in hiring coaches and GMs.

as widely expected, Harbaugh is out in SF (by mutual agreement).  destination very likely Michigan

    Falcons fire Mike Smith

Bears fire GM Phil Emory.  on edit - Marc Trestman fired as well

Dolphins fans had a brief moment of euphoria...

Honestly, that would've been the second worst case scenario if that actually happened. The worst case would've been him joining the Hoodie.

    Dan Pompei
    ‏@danpompei
Bears are expressing interest in Eric DeCosta of Ravens for GM.

    Dan Pompei
    ‏@danpompei
Bears also expressing interest in Ravens OC Gary Kubiak for Head coach.

    Dan Pompei
    ‏@danpompei
DeCosta and Kubiak could be a fantastic combo.

    Dan Pompei
    ‏@danpompei
Eric DeCosta has been most sought after GM candidate in virtually every search for years. Young Ozzie Newsome with a great feel for talent.

    Dan Pompei
    ‏@danpompei
Gary Kubiak is a Shanahan disciple who values the run. Solid, respected coach who would have a feel for using Cutler.

    Dan Pompei
    ‏@danpompei
Kubiak is a former QB with people skills and he can command a room. Hard for anyone not to respect him.

I wonder if Casserly,Wolf or any of our potential GM candidates have any ties to Marrone.

Your new Twitter BFF Nick?  Very Happy

Have to say I didn't see that one (Marrone) coming. This could be the guy--they seemed to have had his cell number already plugged in on speed dial.

Well, he certainly had our number during the season.  Embarassed

The main concern here is again hiring the coach before the GM...

Bang Head Does Woody or the Jets ever learn ? You hire the GM first and let him make the final decision on the next HC.

One problem with the Jets & Woody is, that there are too many talking heads ! Between Casserly, Wolf, Neil Gat & Ira Akselrad whispering their opinion's to Woody, he's totally overwhelmed.

Stick to the plan of hiring a GM, then HC. Finish interviewing every candidate before settling for Marrone.

Be patient and hire the best candidate @ any expense.

Now that Harbaugh has landed in Michigan, maybe Urban Meyer knows he will steal some of his thunder, and it might be a good time to make the jump to the NFL ?

    Go Jets...Cyborg

I'm surprised we haven't heard much on Pep this week. I guess Mr Hanilton didn't make rd 1 for us. I'm glad we're getting in Quinn Saturday. If we're patient, he might fall in our laps. I think Bowles and Reich some off the market fast, maybe Rex too. Chicago rumored to like Holmgren, which would leave is looking at Quinn, Bevell, Marrone, etc with few openings left.

I think Jets should be primary focused on the GMs right now.

One thing we're missing our on is some of the good coordinators though. Sad. Saw SF DC talking to Washington and Koetter (Atlanta GM) talking to TB...those will be amazing hires for those teams.

Wolf/Casserly are running the interviews concurrently. Gm candidates are asked which coaches they would like to work with. In the Marrone thread, I posted a link showing a very strong connection through Casserly. Woody is not screwing anything up. He's listening to his advisors.

Just a guess, but I don't think Chip Kelly will last in Philly.
