Correct move: start the guy who went 10/12, is young, and didn't have 4 dropped INTs before the 5th one was picked. Vicks plays like a rookie...Geno at least can show if he learned anything, neither is likely to carry us to victory...

...white wash on the way...37-13 Phins...

In a surprise, the New York Jets have decided to return to Geno Smith as their starting quarterback, sending Michael Vick to the bench after only three starts.

The team made the announcement shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday after coach Rex Ryan met with the two players.

On Tuesday, after the team's embarrassing 38-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Ryan was leaning toward keeping Vick in the lineup, according to a source. But late Tuesday night, the decision was made to start Smith, a source said.

    [+] EnlargeGeno Smith
    Robert Deutsch/USA TODAY Sports
Rex Ryan benched Michael Vick, left, in favor of Geno Smith, who will start Monday against the Dolphins.
The feeling close to the team is that general manager John Idzik insisted that Ryan start Smith, his underperforming former second-round pick.

Smith's return will happen on a national stage, as the Jets play the Miami Dolphins on Monday night at MetLife Stadium.

Say this for the Jets (2-9): Even when they're bad, their quarterback situation never fails to fascinate. This marks the second quarterback change of the season.

After a Week 8 blowout loss to the Bills that dropped them to 1-7, the Jets benched Smith, who threw three straight interceptions in the game. At the time, Ryan had little choice but to make the change, as the locker room had grown weary of Smith's turnover-prone ways.

Vick went 1-2 as the starter. He played turnover-free football in his first two starts, steadying the offense with his veteran leadership. But he was terrible on Monday night, completing only 7 of 19 passes for 76 yards and an interception. Smith replaced him in the third quarter.

Vick suffered wrist and ankle injuries in the game, but those apparently didn't factor into the decision. On Tuesday, Ryan told reporters that the decision wouldn't be based on Vick's health.

Might as well let Geno play these final 5 games and come to a decision if you think he can be the long term answer or if it's time to move on. Makes no sense to sit him on the bench now that we are out of the running

I could see sticking with Vick if we were in the game he played...but after hitting more Bills DBs with passes last week than Jets WRs...go young. I'd be fine with Simms or Geno starting this week. Vick is a waste of time.

vick has no future with the team, and possibly in the league. smith has at least a chance (albeit a small chance) to have a future with the team. so it makes all the sense in the world to let him start at this juncture. and if he stinks it up the next few weeks, i'd give simms a crack to end the season.

as to the dolphins game, i'm probably just delusional, but it wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world to see the jets actually pull out a win. i know there is no rational way to justify this, and we very well may be embarrased as much, if not more, than we were last week. but jets-dolphins often have wacky results.

We might as well play TJ Graham, Walt Powell, Pryor, Dakota Dozier, Enempkali, and some other guys as well. 5 week auditions for next season.

I wouldn't play Powell and Graham and have Harvin lose too many reps though...I do like Graham a lot though. I was impressed by a big block he had on a Ivory first down run. He plays hard in teh run game for a little guy.

I guess Simms isn't impressing the coaches enough to get the nod. Is it possible we could have 3 different QB's on this team next year?

    I hope so.

Would it be story book material, if Geno goes down, and Simms comes in and crushes the Flippers, and goes on to win two Super Bowls and becomes our 10 year franchise QB. Sleep

Jets released Antwan Barnes and signed Chris Pantale to the 53-man. Pantale will probably suit up tonight if Amaro can't go (decent chance based on this roster move imo)

This also frees up snaps for IK Enemkpali to show what he can do.

This is definitely the right move in my opinion. See what the young guys can do these last 5 weeks. Why Cumberland has been the 'blocking TE' all year is beyond me, particularly when we have a guy like Pantale whose forte is blocking. He can also catch a little as well as evidenced in the preseason. I hope also that Colon is benched at some point, so we can see what we have in Johnson and/or Dozier. Landry needs to take a seat as well.

this smells of a blowout............the team does not have faith in Geno Smith.

From Rex's standpoint.......I would also want to play Geno Smith.....that way any future prospective employer can see just how bad a hand he was dealt with Idzik and the 'talent' he acquired. Rex is a goner and he might as well play the underdog role to the hilt.

I have this funny feeling we beat the Phins and Geno has an "OK" game then it's 2013 all over again as people will start thinking Geno might be the guy.

Lets face it, when it's crunch time and the games matter, Geno cannot step up to the plate.  In garbage time, he flourishes. I, feel the Jets will be better to continue to lose out and clean house. Hope the Jets get blown out tonight and not be deceived by "Fools gold". This in turn IMHO will help this team rebuild from the inside out.

The Jets are compeiting with the Titans, Raiders and Bucs for Marcus Mariota.  The silliest thing for the Jets to do in their quest to build a team for decades to come is to win any more games this year.

The saddest part about tonight isn't if Geno will lead the team to victory, it's that the team will be honoring Wayne Chrebet on a night no one has any passion about watching the Jets play,  Even Jets fans.  Chrebet always demonstrated grit and determination with a strong sense of perserverence.  Nothing these current Jets players or Coaches have any clue about.

I remember when rockers used to drive motorcycles and football players used to hit on the football field.

Now rockers ride bicycles and football players hitting other football players is unnecessary roughness. Sad
